Dennis is a band director at Hoover High School where he has taught since returning to Birmingham in 1988. Dennis began his career in music education after receiving degrees from the University of Alabama and the University of North Alabama. Currently in his thirty-seventh year as an instrumental music teacher in the state, Mr. Carroll is active in the entire band program including the marching, concert and jazz ensembles. He is an officer in the Alabama Bandmasters Association and a member of the National Association of Music Educators, the National Band Association and the International Trumpet Guild.
Dennis has performed regularly with the Red Mountain Orchestra since the early 1990’s, and has been a conductor with the orchestra.
He is an active musician in the community, playing trumpet in the Aria Brass Quartet, the Birmingham Brass Quintet and several other professional organizations. He also contributes his abilities to civic organizations and churches, including his home church, Faith Presbyterian Church in Pelham.
Outside of his music world, Dennis enjoys water sports at Smith Lake, hiking, and traveling. Dennis is married to our hornist, Ginny, and they have three grown children and three exciting grandchildren.
